KiwiSaver Guide explains how New Zealand KiwiSaver works. Its guides are written for KiwiSaver members, employees, self-employed people and first-home buyers in New Zealand. We are not a licensed financial advice provider under the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013, and nothing on this site is a recommendation, an offer, or a personalised statement of what you should do. Accuracy and currency
We take care to work from official sources, but rates, thresholds, contribution percentages and deadlines change — sometimes mid-year, and sometimes with transitional rules. A page that was correct when it was written can be out of date when you read it. Always confirm the current position with Inland Revenue (ird.govt.nz), the Government's KiwiSaver site (kiwisaver.govt.nz), Sorted (sorted.org.nz) and the Financial Markets Authority (fma.govt.nz) before making a decision, particularly where money or a deadline is involved.
Investment risk
KiwiSaver is an investment. Fund values rise and fall, and a fund can lose money over any period, including a year in which you withdraw. Past performance is not an indication of future returns, and no return shown or implied anywhere on this site is guaranteed. Before choosing or changing a fund, read the product disclosure statement of the scheme you are considering and consider your own investment timeframe.
